First Year Radio Team B meetings

Team B will meet in the small newsroom at 1300 on Wednesday to plan Thursday's programme and identify roles. I'll be around from 12 noon for anyone who wants an early chat about ideas.  On Thursday morning, editorial conference will commence at 0830 in the main newsroom. Please come dressed for work and fully briefed on the day's local, national and international news agenda. Remember, journalists who are late are likely to find themselves doing the least attractive work.

Let morals exact change

Times Higher Education asked me to defend the principle that newspapers should be self-regulating. It was an interesting commission because the deadline was tight and also because THE's academic readership is not as hostile to statutory underpinning of press regulation as the national newspapers for which I normally write. Anyway, I had a go - and you can read the column here. From the look of the comments to date I was right to guess this would be a hard sell...

BJR recognises the Centre for Journalism

British Journalism Review invited me to describe what we teach in the Centre and to reflect on how it prepares our students for careers in the multimedia world. I was delighted to promote our degrees and to boast a bit about our graduates and their jobs in journalism. You can read my piece in the latest edition of BJR (Vol.23, No. 4) or online here. Such recognition in the  profession's best journal is flattering to everyone in the Centre.

NCTJ Law exams in January - important info Part 2

As we've discussed all term, the NCTJ Essential Media Law exam for Year 2s and MAs will take place on January 23rd 2013. You MUST see Anastasia to register - and pay -  for this exam by FRIDAY. There is a three-week run-in period so by the time you return in January it will be too late.  This also applies to any YEAR 3s who plan to re-sit either EML or Court Reporting in January.

And in case my last blog was a bit ambiguous - I WILL be doing a Year 2 law session this Friday morning for anybody who's not taking the shorthand exam! Xmas sweeties provided........
