Infographics play an increasingly prominent role in journalism, so it's always worth taking a look at what the field's best practitioners are up to.

The winners of the first ever Information Is Beautiful awards have been announced, and include several journalism successes - including The Guardian's visual spread on government spending. The overall winner in that category was CNN's interactive online feature, Home and Away, which details the deaths of US service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan in a brilliantly compelling way.

Any Year 3 and MA students thinking of taking the Advanced Multimedia Storytelling option next term should take a good look.

Wired magazine has a gallery of the award winning entries and it's also worth taking a look at the Information is Beautiful Awards site run by David McAndless.
