Spare sympathy this morning for Euna Lee and Laura Ling, the US journalists sentenced by a North Korean court for entering the country in pursuit of a story for their employer, the internet broadcaster Current TV. The language used in sentencing them was chilling. A state arrogant enough to call a twelve year term in a prison camp   "reform through labour" recalls the one imagined in Orwell's 1984. There were no independent witnesses at the trial.
