A study by City University has produced some intriguing insights into the relationship between print and online newspapers. The Finnish newspaper on which the study is based lost online readers when it dropped its print edition.  It is one example, but it confirms that converting a print product into an online one is far from straightforward. Printing technology is expensive and distribution is cumbersome but I suspect a few more trees are going to have to make the ultimate sacrifice before web based editions achieve dominance.
