Reporting & Writing revision sessions

Can I propose dates for first year reporting revision sessions in the newsroom at 11am on Tuesday, June 10, and 11am on Thursday, June 12?

The newsroom is fully booked this week for a Kent Extra course, but is back in action next week. If those times don't suit anyone let me know and I will try to find a convenient slot.

The two revision sessions will be basic refreshers on news values and ethics. I'd also recommend reading a good selection of newspapers between now and the exam (I'm sure you would do this anyway!).

See you next week.

NCTJ Portfolio deadline

Third years should have their NCTJ Portfolio stories uploaded to the NCTJ website for me to look at by Friday, May 30.

Can you let me know when there are stories ready for me to read, by sending me an email. I will monitor the NCTJ site from time to time, but I don't want to risk missing anything.

Anyone who has already had feedback on their stories should let me know when theirs are ready for another look.

They need to be marked and submitted by the end of term, so please make any edits quickly! Thanks.

Year one news challenge teams

Here are the teams for this week's local news challenge. Remember, you are making local newspapers for Medway. They will be published on Friday evening.

Team one

Editor: Abigail Nuttall

Reporters: Vinesh, Jenna, Sheryl, Conor, Charles, Danny, Ben, Cecilie, Adriene

Team two

Editor: Abigail Morris

Reporters: Ali, Lauren, Sarah, Emily, Jake, Jackie, Gemma, Monica

Reminder: Reporting and Writing test

The second timed newswriting assessment for Reporting and Writing I will be held during Tuesday's session, March 11.

Please try to get to the newsroom as quickly as possible after shorthand, as the test will begin at 11am.

The format is very similar to the last one, but some of the information for the story will be given to you in a short 60wpm spoken statement. We'll do a practice run in Friday's class.

Parliament and Sky News trip - March 4

All aboard! The Westminster trip for first year undergraduates and MA students will be on Tuesday, March 4.

We need to meet outside Parliament at 9am to get registered for our tour. You will need to plan train journeys accordingly. Westminster is on the Circle, District and Jubilee lines so is easy to get to from Victoria, London Bridge and Charing Cross.

We will meet outside the visitor entrance to Parliament, opposite Westminster Abbey. Please see the helpful map below.
