Ben Kennedy joins the Kent Messenger

Congratulations to Ben Kennedy, who will join the Kent Messenger as its new reporter for Dartford and Gravesend in August.

He continues a tradition of Centre for Journalism students starting their careers at the local paper - following Lizzie Massey, Matt Leclere, Clare Freeman, Lewis Dyson, Becky Hughes and Alan McGuinness.

Congratulations to Laura Griffiths

Laura Griffiths has continued a fine tradition at the Centre for Journalism by finding a newsroom job before her graduation.

Laura has been appointed as a trainee sub editor with Newsquest.

We wish her every success in the job and hope that she can take a break from househunting in the south west to enjoy her graduation ceremony, next Tuesday.

Reporting & Writing revision sessions

Can I propose dates for first year reporting revision sessions in the newsroom at 11am on Tuesday, June 10, and 11am on Thursday, June 12?

The newsroom is fully booked this week for a Kent Extra course, but is back in action next week. If those times don't suit anyone let me know and I will try to find a convenient slot.

The two revision sessions will be basic refreshers on news values and ethics. I'd also recommend reading a good selection of newspapers between now and the exam (I'm sure you would do this anyway!).

See you next week.

NCTJ Portfolio deadline

Third years should have their NCTJ Portfolio stories uploaded to the NCTJ website for me to look at by Friday, May 30.

Can you let me know when there are stories ready for me to read, by sending me an email. I will monitor the NCTJ site from time to time, but I don't want to risk missing anything.

Anyone who has already had feedback on their stories should let me know when theirs are ready for another look.

They need to be marked and submitted by the end of term, so please make any edits quickly! Thanks.
