Rooney rattles brace past shamefaced Slovakia

Wayne Rooney bagged a double for England against Slovakia in a 4-0 friendly win at Wembley ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine.

Emile Heskey opened the scoring on eight minutes, whilst Rooney struck the hosts' second 20 minutes from time, before Frank Lampard caressed in a third and set up Rooney for a fourth in the final ten minutes.

But the match will be best remembered for David Beckham gaining his 109th England cap as a second half substitute and exceeding Bobby Moore's record for an outfield player.

Who are the new yuppies?

This is an interesting insight in to the development of The Metro newspaper and one man's vision as to how he would create it. The newspaper which has now existed for 10 years, celebrates its anniversary today. Furthermore, the advent of the yuppy culture which has followed as part of its readership, is even more intriguing, described as "the new yuppies."

Pop to dominate and is it a good thing?

Pop is back with a vengeance. Electronics have born new innovative production groups and sprightly singers and returned them to the forefront of British music, whilst indie janglers Arctic Monkeys and gangster rappers like Eminem are having to succumb for lower reaches of the charts. But will pop and the return of some of its past figures, really return with a bang and will there be a decent output?
