FRANK LAMPARD secured a dramatic late winner for Chelsea, as Guus Hiddink's 100% record was maintained at home to Wigan Athletic in a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard rose highest to a Michael Ballack flick-on inside the penalty area, to loop the ball over onrushing Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, despite protests that the England midfielder had impeded ex-Blues defender Mario Melchiot in the process.

Cancer director says Goody publicity is positive

A key figure in cancer research says terminally ill Jade Goody's publicity of her cervical cancer, is a 'positive move' in raising awarness of the disease.

Professor Mike Richards, a governmental National Cancer Director for the Department of Health, told Sky News that the reality TV star's deteriorating condition - with Goody having only weeks to live - can help promote knowledge of cervical cancer.

"Jade's case will raise awareness and if this can in any way help people suffering from cervical cancer, then so be it," he said.

Australia mourns blaze victims as Rudd outlines community rebuilding

Australia is observing a day of national mourning on behalf of victims of bushfires across the southern state of Victoria.

Furthermore, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, speaking at a memorial service in Melbourne, insists that effected communities will be rebuilt.

The fires, which started on the 7th February, have claimed 209 deaths in the worst fires in Australia's history and have resulted in one man charged with starting the blazes and police suspecting arson in another case.

Smith denies wrongdoing in second home dispute

Jacqui Smith denies any wrongdoing regarding her alleged abuse of MPs' second home allowances.

The Home Secretary faces an investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, John Lyon, in to claims she uses her sister's London home as a main residence, despite reports Ms Smith spends as little as two nights a week there. 

Ms Smith's main constituency residence is in Redditch, Worcestershire, where she has reportedly illegally gained £116,000 in second home expenses on the property.

Scolari's sterile Chelsea continue to crack

The Stamford Bridge pitch looked worn-out on Saturday after recent inclement weather in West London and nationally and reflected Chelsea's performance in their 0-0 draw against Hull City.

Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari needed to recruit some greater vitality and width during the January transfer window and in on-loan Inter Milan winger, Ricardo Quaresma, Chelsea have partially papered over the cracks.
