Dear all,
Please see below message from Dave Betts of Sky News:

Hello everyone,

Just to let you know that our work experience scheme is open for applications until 7 Nov, for placements from Jan to June next year. We have a limited number of bursaries available to fund living costs.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

As someone who successfully applied for a place on this scheme last year and is now working for Sky News, I would strongly recommend applying for this. There are so many opportunities at Sky for young journalists, and you will get a fantastic insight into the running of not just TV news, but radio, online and digital too.

If anyone needs help with their application or wants some insider knowledge, I am more than happy to share my experiences with you :)

Hey Kieran,

Definitely interested in the Sky News work experience and was curious with regards to how it works. Noticed in the application it mentioned you choose one of four or five sections (radio, programming, etc).  Do you get experience in all of them over the three weeks?  Also where is it you live for the three weeks? I noticed it said Osterley so I take it you have to move to the area for the time you're there?

Hi Sean.

I think, from memory, you can choose a preference when you apply as to which area you'd like to be based in. I was also asked during the interview stage. I ended up doing a two week placement; one week with the news planning desk and one with the iPad team. I had to find my own accommodation. They don't provide you with anywhere to stay, although they do offer some money for expenses, and there is a bursary you can apply for too if needs be.

Hope that answers your questions, good luck! :)
