For centuries now love and power have been two things that were either in contradictory or connected, making those who possessed these two an accomplished individual. On January the 10th President Obama has sustained his farewell speech, he tackled topics ranging from the economy to marriage equality, but the pick of his speech was for sure the moment when he acknowledged his wife, Michelle Obama as the role model she was the years during her time as the First Lady. “For the past 25 years you have not only been my wife and mother of my children, you have been my best friend” said President Obama as he began to well up with tears.

Through the years the couple has impressed everyone with their strong relationship. Sometimes love is underrated when talking about politicians, it isn’t in everyone’s interest to learn about the personal matters of those who run the country but when you think about it, one could not function properly if not for the support of his loved ones, especially when you carry the future of your country on your shoulders. You need someone who can be there for you at all times, someone who is trustworthy and supportive, you need someone with whom you can build a team and in my opinion the Obamas were one of the best teams that America has seen.  So my question is:  Can love give you power? Or make you weaker? Well, I go with the second option. An individual as strong as he is on his own, once he is a team he can conquer everything.

As president Barrack Obama has proved, one cannot be weaken by being open about what he feels. For the past eight years, the president wasn’t afraid or embarrassed to show emotion to billions of individuals. For example when he announced executive action on gun control and recalled the Newtown massacre or when remembering his grandmother who died two days before he was elected in 2008, the president acted as an ordinary human being, showing us that vulnerability is not always a weakness.

The President and First Lady are not called a power couple for nothing, in eight years they managed to overcome any bump in the road and succeeded in showing us how two individuals can become one. The couple has benefited from the support and trust from all over the world and as their time as the First Family ended numerous people showed how much they’re going to miss the Obamas.

Love and politics don’t have much in common but when you think about it, everything is connected so it would make sense that these two important things would share some particularities and from what I’ve noticed President Obama and his wife, Michelle, managed to combine these two in such a way that made every American proud to have them as President and First Lady.

What's love got to do with it? The Obamas
