A flash can be used as we know to cover a jump cut in an interview.

Transitions. Lights. Flash.

Load this helpful webpage. It tells you how you can get deeply enough into the audio to easily stop it cross fading.

The trick is to stop the two audio tracks overlapping. Which FCPX does by default, annoyingly.

The page tells you how to create a crossfade. You will be taking one out. Follow the steps. By the time you separate the audio it is obvious what you need to do.
