In light of the Sun's treatment of Gordon Brown this week, Alexander Chancellor's column in G2 asks whether politicians are fools to take newspapers as seriously as they do. Is it time for a modern political leader to declare independence from the press barons in a manner similar to the one adopted in 1931 by Stanley Baldwin? Circulations are down and the  influence of the printed press is waning. So, is power without responsibility turning into impotence without responsibility?
