Few political speeches merit a sketch writer's attention as throroughly as yesterday's flamboyant extravaganza by Peter Mandelson. Quentin Letts of the Daily Mail has done it justice in this superb example of the art.  The headline is also inspired, so much credit to the sub-editor (or editor) who wrote it.

I generally find Letts a touch arch for my tastes - he can also be unnecessarily personal and gratuitously rude in some of his jibes at politicians (particularly John Bercow) in a way that someone like The Guardian's Simon Hoggart, (who has also written a nice sketch about Mandy), isn't.

But on this occasion, I give it to Letts.

Letts is, if anything, even camper than Mandelson and what a fun piece he has written.
