And so it comes down to Sunday’s final. A rollercoaster few weeks has come down to one 90 minutes, maybe 120 minutes, to decide who will take the Centre for Journalism’s Euro 2012 fantasy league. At the moment Jay Akbar sits top – just two points in front of Ian Reeves.
Jay, who has previously led before, had one Mario Balotelli to thank after the maverick scored nine points and looks to have made the difference, not only for Italy, but for Jay. He has scored 247 points so far – hopefully he doesn’t end the league like Liverpool did.
Ian, though, has maintained his challenge for the top after Jordi Alba, who he made captain, banked him 14 points to ensure he stays two points behind Jay. It could have been different for the lecturer, however, if Lukas Podolski had performed.
And in third, slowly going about his business is myself (Declan Olley). I’m 12 points off of Jay because of a late irrelevant penalty that meant so much to me as Mesut Ozil, who scored, was my captain. I also took the highest amount of points of the semi-final round with 53.
From 15th upwards every player has 200+ points and it is still all to play for.
As for the Wooden Spoon update, Josh Margrie-Rouse is winning this wonderful accolade after Scott Mitchell finally got his act together and had a high-scoring round of 50.
