Next Monday afternoon, Michael Bukht will have a conversation with you on how commercial radio bulletins are constructed. Michael will look in particular at Monday’s bulletins from LBC and Classic and how they compare to those on Today. You can read about Micheal here. He is great, and you will get a lot out of this class so please everyone, make sure you are here for this.
Then on Wednesday, we will talk about what worked and what worked less well in last week’s mini news day on booking guests. Recordings will appear on the site in a form that is inaccessible for people outside the CFJ.
We will also talk on Wednesday about your upcoming radio assignment, for which the deadline is 6pm on 6 April. I want you to produce a package on an item of local news. It will be particularly assessed on the sharpness of your journalistic approach, the way you cut it and how well you write and structure the piece.
We will work together on refining and improving these ideas right up to the deadline. To start this process, also on Wednesday, I want you all to pitch one or more single-paragraph local story ideas which you will have prepared before class. Then before you recording anyone for your package I will need to OK a more detailed pitch of up to one page. Both pitches will be taken into account in the marking.
