Students at the Centre for Journalism will be given the chance to learn about the National Union of Journalists during a Question and Answer session held this week
Sarah Kavanagh, Senior Campaigns and Committee Officer for the NUJ, will talk about the organisation’s role in the news industry on Wednesday 29th January in G1-05, between 1pm and 2pm.
As well as representing reporters on newspapers and magazines, the NUJ is made up of members from broadcasting, publishing, new media, public relations and freelance journalists.
It also issues a Press Card, authorised by the Association of Chief Police Officers, and has produced its Code of Conduct for journalist since 1936.
News Reporting Lecturer Lee Kenny who organised the talk said he hoped students will attend to find out more about the organisation.
“Knowing about the industry they are hoping to enter is vital for students at every level and the NUJ has been at the centre of British journalism for more than 100 years.
“I hope students will do some digging, bring along loads of questions and learn more about the role of the NUJ, its successes and its controversies.”
