Third year live two ways class

Tim and I will be running a class on live two ways 1600 to 1730 on 8 March. You will need to put aside some time beforehand on the day to familiarise yourself with the story I give you that morning.

We had a briefing about this yesterday. For the benefit of the people who weren’t there, this is what we covered.

Essentially next Tuesday morning, 8 March, you need to prepare your afternoon update on a breaking news story. It doesn’t have to be a middle east revolution in a country you have never heard of. Nor does it necessarily have to be politics, a major economics conference or the release of some City numbers you don’t understand. Though it could be. It could be a showbiz, celebrity or fashion story. The main thing is it should be a real breaking story that will remain current that afternoon.

You need to prepare a 60 word cue for the presenter (me or Tim) for us to read. You also need to write out a briefing sheet for the presenter saying what the story is and suggesting what the interesting lines of questioning might be.

Come to the big newsroom at 1600 and Tim and I will give you some last minute tips.

Then we will bring you in turn into an office where we will mock a two way and record it onto an Edirol.

You can have notes but do not write out questions or answers.

You will get feedback that day.

The idea is to have a relaxed, informal, accurate conversation with your presenter.

We happen to be doing this for radio, but it will be excellent practice for your TV news day.
