Whilst lockdown has dramatically impacted us all, the elderly have been hit hardest. At greatest risk from the pandemic, enduring months of isolation and confinement the lives of Britain’s elderly has never been bleaker. During these uncertain times Wolverhampton’s Meals on Wheels service has provided a lifeline; enabling citizens to live independently, see a friendly face daily and reassure families of their relatives’ safety.
The service delivers to all age groups with some service users aged 100 and 101 although the average age of clients is 81, incredibly the service delivers 80,000 meals a year and between 250 and 280 meals a day.
93-year-old Barbara Hill explained how the service helps her live independently:
