15:10: It’s all happening in the Championship, as Jordi Gomez fires Swansea City ahead against Mick McCarthy’s Wolves, Noel Hunt’s header smashes past Burnley in Berkshire, ex-Tottenham defender Paul Ifil puts Palace 1-0 up at Forest and Charlton are a goal up against Ipswich at The Valley.
15:16: No goals in the Premier League, but Djibril Cisse goes close to scoring the opener against Arsene Wenger’s visiting Arsenal side, whilst Jimmy Bullard’s free-kick whistles over the bar at West Brom. Wigan’s possession has failed to count so far hosting Middlesbrough, but Amr Zaki’s shot hit the side-netting for the Latics and Jeremie Aliadiere strikes wide in the best of the chances.
15:22: The Championship continues to entertain, as Watford come from behind to lead Preston through Tommy Smith’s goal and Wolves haul themselves level in Wales against Swansea. Sheffield Wednesday’s trip to the South West begins poorly, as Mark Beevers scores an own goal, giving Plymouth the lead.
15:25: On-loan Blackburn Rovers striker Paul Gallagher extends Plymouth’s lead to 2-0, leaving The Owls with a lot of work to do.
15:28: Former Sheffield United forward Rob Hulse continues Derby’s good start to the Championship season by giving County the lead in East Anglia, away to Norwich City.
15:31: Despite winning their last two matches, Wednesday suffer further misery as Jamie Mackie’s effort from close range fires Plymouth 3-0 in front at Home Park.
15:33: Premier League: Few chances on Wearside, as Cisse’s effort saved by Almunia remains the best effort for Sunderland, with Arsenal’s possession superior, but their penetration severely lacking. Zoltan Gera has a half-chance away at his former side West Brom go wide and David Wheater’s header is the closest we’ve come to a goal at the JJB, as the defender’s header flies narrowly over.
15:36: Martin Crainie puts through his own net to hand Ipswich a life-line at Charlton, after Pablo Counago’s cross causes chaos in the hosts area with 10 minutes left until half-time.
15:39: Clint Dempsey’s effort wide for Fulham, highlights the Premier League’s inefficient striking power today, with no goals scored compared to the 16 we’ve had in the Championship already.
15:42: Jason Scotland regains Swansea’s lead hosting Wolves, as Mick McCarthy’s team, who were beaten for the first time in midweek, face a second successive defeat as things stand.
15:46: Half-Time at The Hawthorns, as neither West Brom or Fulham sparkle as the referee blows for the interval in the Midlands.Â
15:49: Half-Time at both the Stadium of Light and the JJB stadium, as Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas is repelled by Sunderland near the interval in a frustrating match against Roy Keane’s side so far. Meanwhile, James Beattie scores a cracking right-foot volley at Bramall Lane against Bristol City right on half-time to give Sheffield United the lead.
16:10: Games are underway for the second-half and in the Championship, Reading fly out of the traps against Burnley, with Stephen Hunt adding to his brother’s earlier strike to score on 52 minutes. Meanwhile it’s red cards galore at Carrow Road and Oakwell, as Roy Carroll and Darren More are sent-off.
16:14: Despite Barnsley reduced to 10 men, the hosts equalise through Stephen Foster’s strike on 54 minutes.
16:16: Arsenal are denied the lead at Sunderland, as the ball is adjudged to have gone out of play from Theo Walcott’s cross before Robin Van Persie scores. The linesman disallows the goal and makes a controversial decision, as Walcott’s adjudged to have been off the pitch rather than the ball on the video replay. Meanwhile, West Brom take the lead at home to Fulham and Sheffield United go 2-0 ahead through Matthew Kilgallon.
16:20: It’s a goal fest in the Championship, as Swansea look set for three points against Wolves as Scotland bags his second for a 3-1 lead, 10 man Barnsley go 2-1 up hosting Doncaster in the local derby at Oakwell and there’s another own goal at The Valley as Charlton lead Ipswich 2-1 through Moritz Volz’s chip over his own keeper.
16:28: No breakthrough at the Stadium of Light despite that close call for Sunderland with the disallowed effort from Arsenal, but Arsenal should be ahead with a dominant 61% possession ratio, but fail to threaten in the final third. West Brom look comfortable hosting Fulham as Tony Mowbray’s side aim to move in to the top-half ot the Premier League table and Wigan and Middlesbrough still cannot find a goal in the north west.Â
16:32: Sheffield United are set for three points at Bramall Lane as Beattie hits a brace against Bristol City for 3-0.Â
16:34: Wigan continue to huff-and-puff against Gareth Southgate’s stubborn Middlesbrough side, but chances are sparse as Boro are holding bodies back to defend in numbers, seemingly looking for a point.
16:38: It’s a contrast in terms of goals between the top-flight and the second tier, as in the Premier League only one goal has been scored, compared with 29 in the Championship today.
16:41: John Macken looks to have put 10 man Barnsley’s game against Doncaster beyond doubt, scoring the host’s third on 73 minutes.
16:46: Sunderland shock Arsenal against the run of play as Roy Keane’s tactical change works wonders, with Grant Leadbitter firing Sunderland in front from distance with a superb strike which crashes off the bar and ensures Arsenal’s disallowed goal will be a sour point at the final-whistle for the visitors.
16:51: Full-time at The Hawthorns as West Brom win 1-0 against Fulham through Bednar’s close-range scuffed strike. They hold on to three points to move to 7th in the Premier League and record two successive victories. And, it looks as if Middlesbrough have sneaked an important away victory at Wigan through Jeremie Aliadiere’s last-gasp effort from 12 yards.
16:53: Full-time at Sunderland as Arsenal equalise through Fabregas’ header from a corner after an onslaught in Sunderland’s penalty area, to score past a stuttering Craig Gordon, with Wenger probably still aggrieved his side were denied the win through Van Persie’s earlier disallowed strike. Roy Keane meanwhile will be fuming his side failed to hold out until the end, but they’ve still picked up an impressive point against Arsenal.
17:04: It’s full-time in all matches apart from the evening games involving Blackburn and Manchester United in the Premier League and Coventry City versus Southampton in the Championship. It’s been quite an afternoon, as Arsenal fail to gain the top-flight lead, West Brom climb to the top-half in the Premier League and Middlesbrough sneak a vital away win against Steve Bruce’s Wigan side at the JJB Stadium. In the Championship, Reading move closer to Midlands sides Birmingham and Wolves in third, whilst Nottingham Forest continue their woeful start as basement boys in the league and Barnsley record a stunning 4-1 victory against Doncaster despite being reduced to 10 men.
